Junior Thespians is a chapter of the Educational Theatre Association, which sponsors the International Thespian Society for middle and high school theatre. Junior Thespians has troupes all across the country in both public and private schools, representing excellence in theatre education. A student may be inducted into a local Junior Thespian Troupe after earning 10 points – the equivalent of 100 hours working in school, community and/or professional theatre both on and behind the stage.

Who Can Attend
The Junior Thespian Experience Day at the Iowa Thespian Festival is open to all seventh or eighth grade students from across the state of Iowa. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A THESPIAN TO ATTEND THE IOWA THESPIAN FESTIVAL! Schools do NOT need to have a Junior Thespian troupe membership to attend the Iowa Festival. We believe attending Festival is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into what being a Thespian is all about. This outstanding day of theatre will hopefully help them as they grow as young artists. We want every seventh or eighth grade student to be able to experience the arts through this one-day Festival opportunity.
Please plan an appropriate number of chaperones for the size of your troupe delegation. We recommend you register one chaperone for every eight junior high students. All chaperones should plan to participate and accompany students throughout the day. This will help ensure a successful, smooth and enjoyable Junior Thespian Experience Day at the Iowa Thespian Festival!
